How To Accessorise Your Kitchen

So, you’ve decided on a kitchen that suits your style and home. What’s next?

It’s time to choose the kitchen accessories and finishing touches, they may seem like small decisions in the grand scheme of things, but it will transform your space into one that is personal to you.

Here are our three top tips for finalising your dream kitchen design:

1. Start with your four walls

Paint is a no-brainer, but what colour?

If you’ve opted for dark kitchen furniture, you’ll need to lighten up the space with a light and neutral paint colour. If you’re working with neutral cabinets however, it’s time to let your imagination run wild! You can go bold and dark, safe in the knowledge that it’s easy to refresh in a few years!

Greens are also big hit right now, and there’s a wealth of shades to choose from. If you want a traditional, neutral tone in your cook space, then opt for a sage.

Extra tip – Purchase a durable kitchen specific paint that can be wiped clean, you’ll be surprised how high that sauce can splash!

Talking of splashes, you could opt for a high splashback in glass, for additional colour. For a smaller space, a mirrored splashback helps to give the illusion of a bigger kitchen.

2. Let there be light

As the hub of the home, the kitchen deserves to be well lit.

The last thing you want when prepping dinner is to find yourself cutting carrots in the dark, so make sure you have all angles covered when it comes to kitchen lighting whatever style you choose.

Spotlights are excellent, they’re bright and versatile without overshadowing the personality of your kitchen. We also love the LED drawer lighting currently taking the kitchen world by storm.

If you’re planning an island or breakfast bar, a low hanging pendant is a charming touch that will add lots of character, as you’ll see below in one of our recent projects:

3. Funky finishing touches

It’s time to have some fun and let your personality shine through in your kitchen!

These final kitchen accessories can be changed as quickly as your mood, so there are no limitations. Here are a few accessory ideas:

  • A framed picture of the family near the dinner table
  • Utensils on the walls and saucepans hanging from the ceiling
  • Open shelving with plants and herbs
  • Updated bar stools (we love the orange barstools above!)
  • A statement vase from your travels on the island

We are loving the copper look at the moment, a different change and texture really give depth to the room. It’s versatile too, matching most styles and colours of kitchen designs.
